It's
full of little references and word plays - I love that sort
of thing!
/.../I'm thirty-eight and sitting under a sunlamp in the
Mountie's ticky-tacky kitchen in one of these ticky-tacky
tract houses in the middle of small town, Canada./.../
/.../I've got a lot to work out, so I do a lot of working
out./.../
/.../If you think Edmonton enough times, it starts to sound
funny, which is true of most words. Benton Benton Benton.
No, that actually sounded funny the first time I heard
it./.../
There's
also a great many sawing-through-clichés in there,
something I'm a big fan of. Yes, clichés can be written
well, but there's definitely something to be said for a text
that cuts right through it all. Chunk chunk, and there it
stands.
Yes,
Speranza is good. This story is actually brand new, but made
it's way in here by having such a great plot-idea. You know,
the ending of due South, where it says what happened to everyone
after the show? Speranza mixes the endings up! The results
for Fraser and Ray are staggering (to say the least).
You
might get the impression from this that it's some sort of
funny story, but it isn't, really. It deals with some very
important questions and is remarkably true to character.
This
is a work of craftsmanship. The story is built with two parallel
points of view (Fraser's and Ray's), right there next to one
another in the text. Now and then we see a Scrabble board
between the texts.
The
story isn't just brilliantly made; it's also very good. Speranza
has a very believable take on Fraser's psychological makeup,
the way he's sometimes so reckless with himself. And Ray understands
him so well.
"It'll
scare him a bit, but he'll love it--Fraser loves being scared,
he responds to pressure like nobody else I've ever known."
All
in all, this fic is a good read. Follow Speranza's instructions
and don't try to read every bit of it. Just sort of glide
around and you'll do fine.
Sappy,
sappy stuff, but oohh, how I adore it! Long, romantic and
with Ray's children. Quite a far stretch from what
I usually like, but this one just speaks to me. I can't help
it. I love it. It's the children, really, and their love.
I
consider this fic a classic by now. It's basically a very
very long PWP (if you mean by PWP that there's a lot of sex
in it, and of course you do :). In it, we meet a faded and
tense Ray, who is afraid to love again. Fraser convinces him
in a lovely way by means of sex, sex and more sex. No, really!
Meltingly hot...
The
authors are especially good at writing bodily reactions and
feelings. They have written more very good fics which you
may access here
or maybe here.
Or try due
Slash.
Keep in mind that Aristide also goes by the name of Mairead
Triste and that they write in other fandoms as well.
